Changes on the Horizon: The Renewal of the Board of Directors
Holy Week in Tarragona is entering a phase of transformation with the election of a new management committee to the Group of Holy Week Associations (AASST). On November 11, a group of young people aged between 26 and 31 assumed the leadership of this entity that brings together the city’s 13 brotherhoods.
Generational Relief: A Fresh Wind
This change in leadership reflects a need for generational renewal that extends to many civic organizations. Figures such as Iván Medina, president and treasurer for the past few years, as well as Georgina Gual, Xavier Balcells and Raquel Moreno, bring a new and dynamic vision to the management of traditions.
A Clear Objective: Adapting to New Times
Medina states that ‘our incorporation can facilitate a necessary update to face the new times’. The digitalization of procedures is one of the aspects they seek to integrate, thus facilitating management and communication with society.
Renewal and Inclusion: A Commitment to the Community
The new board members strongly believe that Easter must evolve to be more attractive and accessible to contemporary society. ‘We can’t stand still’, says Medina, ‘we have to make the confraternities more inclusive and representative of the whole community.’
A New Direction in Communication
With the aim of increasing their presence, they propose an active communication strategy through social networks, with special attention to the creation of audiovisual content that involves young people and encourages their participation.
Revitalization of Tradition: Solidarity and Dynamic Actions
One of the priorities of the new committee is to recover the solidarity actions that characterized the brotherhoods in the past. This task not only seeks to meet current needs, but also to reactivate the community spirit among the members.
Visibility of Holy Week
Among the outstanding projects, the creation of the Espais de Setmana Santa (Holy Week Spaces) stands out, which offer a museum-style view of the Tarragona tradition. Currently, the Biblical Museum serves as the starting point for a tour that connects with local churches.
A Promising Future: The Easter Route
The Holy Week Route project, which will bring together different churches and mysteries, seeks not only to promote tourism, but also to make Tarragona’s cultural and religious heritage accessible to all citizens. Collaboration with the Biblical Museum and the City Council is essential to make this initiative a reality.
