The government accepts most demands from the primary sector at the Agrarian Table
After four hours of meeting, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Climate Action, David Mascort, has announced that the government has met almost all the demands of the farmers and ranchers who mobilized last week. Among the measures agreed, the creation of a new subsidy of two hundred euros per hectare for irrigators who have not been able to irrigate due to the drought stands out.
Farmers will participate in the parliamentary debate on agricultural policy
Mascort has explained that the representatives of the four farmers’ organizations – Unió de Pagesos, Jarc, FCAC and Revolta Pagesa – will be invited to participate in the debate on agrarian policy that will take place next week in parliament. In return, the farmers have promised to stop the protests before midnight.
The ACA will be reorganized to give more voice to the primary sector
The councilor has recognized that the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) must be more sensitive to agriculture and livestock. For this reason, he has agreed that it is necessary to reorganize the Water Supply area, which is headed by Jordi Molist, and that the Revolta Pagesa platform make a proposal to increase the presence of the primary sector on the ACA’s board of directors. Instead, he has defended the continuity of the director of the ACA, Samuel Reyes, and has attributed to the Revolta Pagesa platform complaints that did not correspond to his area of competence, such as the lack of investments since the drought of 2008. He has also ruled out that there have been dismissals in this area.
