From now on, they will be able to accommodate a wider range of uses, including common spaces that have so far been restricted to the upper floors. This initiative will allow the installation of services such as washing machines, community dining rooms or even additional kitchens.
A unanimous decision for a necessary change
The Consistory of Igualada recently approved, with the support of all members, a modification of the General Urban Planning Plan that affects the multi -family residential areas. This modification is aimed at the keys that do not currently allow the use of homes on the ground floors, a requirement that limited the creation of common spaces essential for coexistence.
Impulse to housing with shared spaces
The modification seeks to facilitate the creation of accommodation with complementary services, promoting Decree 50/2020 promoted by official housing. The municipal government has emphasized the importance of this reform to meet the increasing demand for living alternatives and to foster wider access to housing.
Social cohesion and housing diversity
Carlota Carner, Councilor for Housing, emphasized that this measure aims to foster social cohesion through the creation of shared spaces, which meet the current needs of the population. This new typology of housing will not only seek to facilitate access to single -parent young people and families, but also to meet the needs of the elderly, which seeks to maintain their independence with the possibility of socializing.

Examples such as the Cooperative Housing Promotion of La Torreta, which will transform the old factory, depending on twelve homes with common spaces, illustrate the path that Igualada is taking.
