At least two people arrested in Berlin

At least two people have been arrested in a major operation in Berlin, but police admit they are not Staub or Garweg.

The search continues

The German security forces continue to ‘search intensively’ for the two former members of the terrorist organization Red Army Faction (RAF, in German) Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg, who have been wanted and captured for three decades.

Police operative in Berlin

This Sunday morning, German security forces deployed a large police device in the Friedrichshain district of Berlin in search of the two fugitives, but failed to capture them.

Arrests and releases

During the operation, ten people were detained, who were released after being identified and at no time were they arrested, according to the Criminal Police of Lower Saxony.

Research reactivation

The search for the two ex-terrorists was reactivated after the arrest of their companion Daniela Klette, 65, who was living under a false identity in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin.

All three belonged to the so-called third generation of the armed band and, due to their age, have been dubbed RAF ‘retirees’.
