The unions denounce the situation of job insecurity that they live in Baix Gaià
A group of twenty employees of Correus de Torredembarra took to the streets this Monday to demand more staff and better working conditions. According to the CCOO, UGT and CSIF unions, for the past five years, leave or work permits have not been replaced, according to the ACN. This means they have to do more work and the mail delivery service is affected by delays and longer routes. They also claim that they work with 35% less staff.
A physical and mental effort
The postal services secretary of the UGT in Tarragona, Joan Beltran, explained that “it is not only a physical effort, but also a mental one, because there is a lot of pressure to distribute everything”. The representative of the Tarragona CCOO postal sector, Jesús Velasco, regretted that “the lack of staff is widespread throughout Spain” but he emphasized that “the situation in Baix Gaià is very serious, the service is very poor”. According to Velasco, “people complain to the postman and he is the least guilty, because he suffers it in his own flesh”.
They demand solutions
The unions have pointed out that at certain times, such as in the summer, only half of the staff work. They ask that the structural positions be covered in the Torredembarra and rural cels Distribution Unit. They also demand that quality working conditions be respected. If this problem is not solved, they warn that they will make new mobilizations.
