A new age for parking at La Seu d’Urgell
The City Council of La Seu d’Urgell has made a significant decision by approved the granting of the management of parking in blue and green areas. This responsibility has been awarded to the company Estacionamientos y Servicios Sau, which will replace the previous manager, Saba, after years of service.
Economic details of the new contract
With this new collaboration, the council hopes to obtain an income of 49,266 euros each year, adding a total of approximately 250,000 euros over the five years of validity of the contract.
Innovations in the parking system
Among the improvements that are expected, the installation of 23 modern parking meters is allowed to allow digital payments, thus facilitating the experience of the users. To date, the existing parking meters have only accepted traditional credit coins or credit cards.
More flexible parking schedules
Payment schedules will also experience major changes. On Saturday afternoons, the parking will be free, as is the case on Sundays. This measure seeks to increase the attractiveness of the center during a time when commercial activity usually decreases after the weekly market.
Reduction of rates for short parking
Another initiative is to reduce prices for the first 15 minutes of parking, which will now cost only five cents, compared to the previous 0.25 euros for the first twenty minutes.
Review of parking schedules
Parking hours from Monday to Friday have also been adjusted. Now, the car park can be managed between 9.00 and 13.30, as well as from 16.30 to 20.00. This represents an increase of half an hour in the morning, while the afternoon is reduced at the same time.
Consensus with the opposition
The changes have been agreed with the opposition groups, including the Junts Training proposal to make the parking lot free on Saturday afternoons.
Current work impact and situation
The new managing company will also take care of the staff who worked with SABA, with expectations to enter around one million euros for the duration of the contract. Currently, the parking area in the center of La Seu d’Urgell has 570 places, of which 137 are green in the most central streets, while the rest corresponds to the blue zone, distributed by different strategic points in the city.

With these new measures, the City Council expects not only to facilitate access to the urban center, but also to revitalize the commercial and social activity of the center of La Seu d’Urgell, creating a more attractive environment for residents and visitors.
