A man shot the officers when they entered a house where marijuana was being sold

The Mossos d’Esquadra have suffered an attack with a firearm when they were participating in an operation against drug trafficking in a house in Argentona (Maresme). The agents were preparing to enter the house where the sale of marijuana had been detected when they received several shots from inside. According to sources from the Catalan police force reporting to the Catalan News Agency (ACN), the events took place during an anti-drug operation that was being carried out simultaneously in Argentona and Dosrius, two municipalities in the Maresme. Despite the shots, no officer was injured and the Catalan police arrested three people, one of whom was the shooter.

The Mossos have bulletproof equipment for these cases

The incident has provoked the indignation of the police union USPAC, which has denounced the danger faced by the Mossos when they intervene in cases of drug trafficking. The union has assured that the fact that no agent has suffered damage from the shots has been thanks to the anti-bullet equipment that the Mossos have for this type of operation. However, from the union organization they have also regretted that it is not always possible to have this equipment. Considering that this is not the first incident with a firearm in the framework of an operation against drug trafficking, from the union they demand that the police officers be provided with all the necessary material to deal with this “very serious problem serious”: “Guns circulate like candy.”

Catalonia, Europe’s largest marijuana garden

The police union believes that it is necessary to intensify the fight against drug trafficking because, in recent years, Catalonia has become “the great marijuana garden of Europe”. But the war against the sale of narcotic substances does not end with cannabis. This past Monday, a joint operation between the Civil Guard and customs surveillance agents from the Tax Agency at the Port of Barcelona managed to intercept 419 kilos of cocaine hidden in sacks of coffee coming from Costa Rica.
