A recognition to the local tradition

The municipal plenary session held on March 31 in Amposta has marked a significant time for local culture, with the unanimous approval of declaring paper dresses as a cultural asset of local interest. This decision, as the Councilor for Culture, Inés Martí, explained is a first step towards the goal of making them an Intangible Heritage of UNESCO, a process in collaboration with the cities of Mollerussa and Porto.

City Council’s financial situation

During the session, the budget of the year 2024 was also submitted, revealing that the City of Amposta faces a negative negative treasury remnant of 400,000 euros, the first time in a decade. The mayor, Adam Tomàs, said that this situation is temporary and will be reversed with the collection of urbanization fees, with a recovery forecast of 600,000 euros.

Savings and investments

Despite this mishap, the City Council continues to have a positive net savings of 1,900,000 euros and about 4 million euros in liquidity. This, along with an unused € 2 million credit policy, ensures the ability to execute the 18 million euros for investments and the payment of invoices.

Improvements in infrastructure and sports support

The plenary also approved a budget modification of 352,000 euros to improve sports infrastructures, including support for entities in the sector. These investments will go to projects such as the Biomass Boiler, the reform of the roof of the old slaughterhouse and the redevelopment of Santa Barbara Avenue, among others. The proposal was approved with the abstention of Together and Som, and the support of ERC.

Inter -administrative collaborations

In addition, the extension of a collaboration agreement between the Montsià County Council and the City Council of Amposta was unanimously approved to manage the Montsià Youth Office, an important step in coordinating youth initiatives in the region.

Debates and motions on the agenda

As for the motions, two proposals were discussed by the municipal group Together for Amposta – Municipal Commitment. The first, which urged to draft an emergency mobility plan in the health and cultural ring, was rejected with the favorable votes of Som and Together, while ERC voted against. The second motion, which sought to improve security at the municipal sports facilities, followed a similar destination, with the support of Som i Junts and the ERC opposition.
