The anticipated second season
House of the Dragon, the first and only series derived from the Game of Thrones universe, has confirmed the premiere date of its second season on HBO Max.
The second batch of chapters will arrive in the month of June, ahead of the month that was chosen for the first season, which was launched on August 21, 2022.
This news was confirmed by J.B. Perrette, head of streaming and gaming at Warner Bros. Discovery, during an interview at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecommunications conference.
Preparations for return
HBO Max is aware of the importance of preparing the return of ‘The Dragon’ to turn each of its episodes into a global event, just as it did with the end of Game of Thrones.
The platform continues to dose its news to maintain the interest of viewers. In December, it already released its first trailer and announced the full cast of the series.
Second season details
Season 2 of ‘The Dragon’ will be made up of eight chapters, two less than the first. Filming concluded in 2023 and is currently in the post-production phase.
Based on Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin, the series is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen.
The season two cast will include Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno and Rhys Ifans.
Additionally, Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne will join the cast of the series.
Also joining in will be Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull, Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower and Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong.
The expected return
The House of the Dragon will be one of the big premieres of HBO Max in 2024, marking its return as the first of the four current big bets along with Euphoria, The White Lotus and The Last of Us.
The Game of Thrones spin-off managed to overcome the strikes of Hollywood screenwriters and actors, which allowed it to bring forward its launch. HBO Max’s confidence in the series is absolute, ensuring at least four seasons, while George R.R. Martin has announced that he will soon begin work on the third season.
