A new surveillance system in place

The City Council of Catllar has started an ambitious project to install a total of 21 license plate reading cameras at the main entrances of the urbanizations of the municipality. This initiative, which represents an investment of more than 200,000 euros, includes not only the installation but also the maintenance of the system for four years.

Technological execution and integration time

The installation work is expected to be completed for April 25, 2025. Once the facilities are completed, the technical procedures needed to integrate the system with the Mossos d’Esquadra platform will be completed, ensuring effective communication among the authorities.

Characteristics and operation of cameras

The cameras used have OCR/ANPR technology, which facilitates the automatic reading of license plates and the collection of additional information on vehicles, such as their brand, model, color and typology. The data collected is immediately sent to the Directorate General of Police (DGP), which allows the rapid identification of vehicles of police interest. This system will operate continuously, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Strategic location of cameras

Some cameras have already been installed in access to various urbanizations, and will be located more in strategic places such as Sant Roc, Mas Gerembí, and many other key points in the municipality, including the urban center of the Eixample.

Commitment to Citizen Security

This initiative marks a significant step towards the modernization of Catllar Security Systems, with the aim of improving collaboration with security forces and ensuring a safer environment for all neighbors.

Opinions of local leaders

The mayor, Xavier Canadell, has stated his support for the initiative, saying that ‘technology must serve to protect the community’. For his part, the Councilor for Security, Jordi Ruiz, emphasized the importance of this measure, considering it an “essential preventive tool” that will enhance the responsiveness and coordination with the Mossos d’Esquadra.

A safer future

With these actions, Catllar is not only modernized technologically, but it is also building a future in which citizen security is a priority, thus promoting a calmer and more protected environment for all.
