Turull assures that the amnesty law will allow the return of the former president

The general secretary of Junts, Jordi Turull, has affirmed that the amnesty law agreed with the PSOE and ERC will enable the return of the former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont to Catalonia. According to Turull, if the law enters into force at the end of May, the judges will have two months to decide to apply amnesty to each of the affected people, thus facilitating Puigdemont’s return in a relatively short period of time.

Reactions and future perspectives

Turull has highlighted that the agreement on the amnesty law is part of Pedro Sánchez’s investiture pact, stressing that this puts negotiations on the 2024 budgets at a standstill. In addition, he pointed out that the amnesty does not resolve the political conflict, stating that they are now moving towards self-determination.

On the other hand, Junts MEP Toni Comín has expressed his confidence in returning to Catalonia at the end of July, coinciding with Turull’s calculations. Comín has highlighted the importance of this law to face the return with determination and pride after seven years.
