A collective solution for a persistent problem
The populations that limit with Collserola have experienced a significant reduction in wild boar incidents, with a decrease of approximately 70% over the last two years. This results in a reduction to half of the number of animals present in the area.
Specific actions and visible results
The boar table, established two years ago, has been essential in this process, proposing a total of 98 measures that go beyond simple hunting. This initiative has brought together efforts from the Department of Agriculture, local councils, neighbors, animal protective entities and hunters.
Positive assessments of the councilor
Counselor Oscar Ordeig expressed his satisfaction with the results obtained, emphasizing the decrease in accidents, damage and health problems associated with wild boars. However, he emphasized the importance of maintaining attention and announced the creation of the wild boar’s Observatory.
A new model of governance
This new platform will be made up of all the groups involved, with the aim of coordinating the conflicts generated by the presence of wild boars in a coordinated way. Ordeig emphasized that this model of governance is an innovative step in the management of these animals.
Waste Awareness and Management Measures
One of the pillars of the actions implemented has been the adaptation of waste management in the municipalities, as well as the control of the cat colonies, to prevent wild boars from accessing sources of food. In addition, work is being done on the awareness of the population so that they do not feed these animals.
Support in the agricultural sector
Initiatives are also being promoted to help farmers mitigate the damage caused by wild boars, thus strengthening the collaboration between the community and the agricultural sector.
Wild boar data
The statistics provided by the Generalitat indicate that the density of wild boar in Collserola has fallen to 9 individuals per square kilometer, a figure that is well below those of previous years. During the exceptional shakes this year, 52 wild boars were captured, in contrast to the previous figures ranging from 400 to 600 catches a year between 2019 and 2022.
