Reflections on the urban infrastructure of Alcoy
Each week, my way leads me to cross the Santiago Payà polygon, a space that makes me question the urban decisions made in our city. How is it possible that so many public resources have been allocated to a constantly deteriorating road, generating not only logistical disadvantages for companies, but also a negative image for all of us, the Alcoyans?
Works that do not solve the problems
Daily, my walk through the La Rosaleda district reveals a panorama of work that, far from restoring the old green space, involves an economic investment that, again, falls on the citizens. The companies responsible for the works have made profits, while we are facing the burden of public spending.
A promising futur that does not above
Entença Street, which the local government had presented as a future model, turns out to be an example of incomplete promises. The screens that should facilitate mobility are turned off or broken, the banks remain empty, and the sidewalk is obstructed by parked vehicles. All this, paid with our taxes.
A story of incompetence
These facts are just an example of the lack of competence and responsibility of the governments that have directed us, both the PP and the PSOE. There is a long history of failed actions: from the inappropriate adaptation of trees to unfinished projects such as the parking lot of the well -known burger. All these examples, accompanied by technical reports, lead us to a crucial question: why should we trust the projects of the South Polygon?
The priority of citizen needs
The question we have to raise is why the interests of a part of the businessman must prevail about the quality of life of the citizenry. If the past has shown us that these initiatives often end up in failures, what reason do we have to trust their future projects?
Citizen mobilization as a response
The neighbors of Alcoy have shown in the past our capacity to mobilize and defend our interests. We have stopped projects such as the Hotel de la Font Roja and La Canal. Now, it is time to ask the promoters of these initiatives to present their resumes and show us if they are really ready to make decisions that affect our lives.
The responsibility of local journalism
The real question that should be on the table, and that should be investigated for local journalism, is whether the proposters of the South Polygon are really worthy of our confidence. His past actions have already given us many clues to his competition.
