A Unique Transformation in the Heart of Football

Nestled near the iconic Goodison Park, the unassuming facade of 9 Goodison Road belies the vibrant atmosphere that resides within. This location, once a simple terraced home, has evolved into a cherished haven for Everton supporters, thanks to the vision of Ray Parr, a devoted fan and retired building surveyor.

The Birth of The Striker’s Lounge

Ray’s journey began in 1998, fueled by frustration over escalating box prices that soared to nearly £50,000. Rejecting the idea of sharing a costly box, he seized the opportunity to create a more personal and inviting space. With an investment of £21,000, Ray transformed the ground floor into The Striker’s Lounge, a venue that would become a focal point for fans on matchdays.

Creating a Community

Over the past 27 years, the lounge has fostered a tight-knit community of 26 members who gather to enjoy sumptuous meals prepared by a chef renowned for his work with the Royal family. The ambiance is enriched by walls adorned with memorabilia celebrating Everton’s illustrious history, including a special tribute to legendary manager Howard Kendall.

A Bittersweet Farewell

As Everton prepares to transition to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, Ray acknowledges that this season marks the end of an era. The final men’s competitive match at Goodison Park is set for Sunday, prompting Ray to reflect on the memories created within the lounge. “This year is the last year, unfortunately,” he noted, with a hint of nostalgia.

Looking Ahead

However, the future holds promise as Ray anticipates the new stadium experience. “The views are fantastic, and the proximity to the pitch will enhance the atmosphere,” he expressed with excitement.

Continuing the Legacy

The legacy of The Striker’s Lounge is set to continue under the stewardship of Gareth Jones, managing director of FullNinety Sports Management, who is in the process of acquiring the property. His vision includes not only maintaining the lounge’s traditions but also extending its hospitality to a broader audience, including local charities and fans of rival teams.

A Community-Centric Future

Gareth envisions the lounge as a versatile space for community engagement, planning to open it for events surrounding men’s, women’s, and under-21 matches, as well as potentially hosting gatherings for supporters of Liverpool FC.

A New Chapter Begins

As the final whistle blows at Goodison Park, a new chapter is poised to unfold, blending tradition with innovation. The spirit of camaraderie and celebration that The Striker’s Lounge embodied will surely live on, fostering new memories in the vibrant atmosphere of Bramley-Moore Dock.
