A Moment of Glory for the Waterpolo Manresan

The session room of the City of Manresa has witnessed a celebration full of excitement, in which the senior water polo team of the Manresa Swimming Club was honored. With a single game to play, the team has achieved an expected goal: the promotion to the Second State Division, a milestone that has not been registered for twelve years.

Authorities present and acknowledgments

Among the attendees, the Mayor of Manresa, Marc Aloy Guàrdia, and the Councilor for Sports, Anjo Valentí Moll, enthusiastically received the club’s delegation. Headed by President Montse Gomáriz González, the retinue included members of the Board, coaches and players, all of them excited for their career.

Delivery of distinctions

During the ceremony, the mayor presented a commemorative gift to the team, emphasizing the extraordinary season of the team led by Jordi López, who scored 126 goals and only known one defeat. Jordi Serracanta, head of the water polo at the club, continued with the presentation of a recognition plaque to Toni Rey Olivera, delegate of the team.

The legacy of the Manresa Swimming Club

Founded in 1933, the Manresa Swimming Club has been a fundamental pillar in the swimming of Catalonia. Today, the club is home to more than 350 athletes in various disciplines, including swimming, water polo, triathlon and artistic swimming, as well as a sports school for children from 6 to 12 years old, focused on the training and technification in water sports.

Successful story in water polo

The Manresa Swimming Club has called the city to the highest international competitions. Iconic figures such as Manel Estiarte, recognized as the best water polo player in history, have competed in six editions of the Olympic Games, between 1980 and 2000. Other prominent athletes, such as Gaspar Ventura, Albert Canal, Jordi Payà and Carles Sanz, have left their mark on the club, with Sanz, Estiarte and Payà turning into Olympic champions during the 1996 Atlanta Games.

Looking to the future

With this recent milestone, the Manresa Swimming Club not only celebrates its promotion, but also reaffirms its commitment to sport and the training of future generations of athletes. The city, with a rich story in water polo, hopes that this success will be only the beginning of a new era of triumphs and recognitions.
