A new approach to urban environment
The City Council of Reus has launched the Renaturaus project, which seeks to transform urbanism through nature. This initiative aims to revitalize streets, squares and other urban spaces to improve the quality of life of citizens and foster biodiversity.
An ambitious strategic plan
The project is part of the Strategic Plan for Green Areas and the Plan of Green and Blue Infrastructure, with the aim of creating a more sustainable and resilient environment in the face of the effects of climate change.
Planned actions: an investment in the future
The City Council is currently working on seven projects that include 21 renaturalization actions with a budget of 721,775.61 euros. The initiatives are organized into three major blocks: vegetation restoration, interconnection of plant levels and recovery of natural heritage.
Recovery of vegetation
One of the key actions is the replacement of ornamental grass with natural prairies, which not only reduce water consumption, but also enrich urban biodiversity.
Interconnection of plant levels
The project seeks to create cohesive green spaces where different strata of vegetation work together for a healthier ecosystem. This is achieved through the implantation of living splinters and the creation of shelters for local fauna.
Recovery of natural heritage
The aim is to restore urban trees, prioritizing species adapted to the Mediterranean climate and that they can deal with adverse conditions. This action not only improves the aesthetics of the city, but also contributes to its environmental health.
The support of the European Community
The Renaurus project has the funding of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, with a total budget of 4,210,526.32 euros, of which 95% is European coverage.
A commitment to the future
With a calendar that extends from July 2023 to December 2025, these actions are not only a step towards a more green city, but also reflect a commitment to the well -being of its citizenship and the health of the planet.
