A complaint against the mandatory electoral law

Next Sunday the elections to the Parliament of Catalonia are held and in this context, Lluís Colomer, a citizen of Manlleu, has declared himself ‘anti-system’ and has filed a complaint with the Ombudsman, Josep Maria Anglada, regarding the ‘mandatory of the electoral law. Colomer expresses his feeling of helplessness in the face of this obligation, especially in the case of being a member of a polling station.

Distrust in the political system

Colomer argues that since the transition of 1978, which he considers did not mean a break with the Franco regime, he has chosen not to participate in elections, except for municipal ones, since he does not believe in the political system. He adds that he believes that political actors are driven by interests, as has been demonstrated during the pandemic.

A critical view and a formal complaint

His critical view of the political system and his formal complaint to the Ombudsman reflect a position of mistrust and rejection of institutions and electoral processes. This attitude highlights the existing tensions and divergences in society regarding participation in electoral processes and trust in democratic institutions.
