A day to promote women’s football in Sant Feliu

by PREMIUM.CAT

In front of more than 35 men’s soccer teams, the Peña Recreativa is organizing a day for March 27 at the Falguera Municipal Field to encourage the youngest girls (born between 2012 and 2020) of Sant Feliu to try the sport of soccer and thus be able to expand the 8 women’s teams with which the Sant Feliuenc club has. Entry is open and no prior registration is required.

Activities to arouse interest in the younger female generations

The activity will start at 17:30h and will have several dynamics whose main objective is to arouse interest in the younger female generations, mainly in the ages corresponding to the categories of pre-teens and teenagers. The president of the Peña Recreativa, Sergio Coarasa, has assured that the day will be “adaptive for the players of the new generations” with exercises led by the club’s coaches. These activities will teach what training and matches consist of.

Commitment to women’s football

The Peña Recreativa de Sant Feliu was the pioneer club in the city in the inclusion of women’s teams. The club was founded in 1979 and two seasons later (1981-1982) there were already girls playing at the Falguera Municipal Field. Before the pandemic, however, all of the club’s women’s teams ended up disappearing. Therefore, Coarasa assures that from the current board it is a priority to increase the number of women’s teams and that is why these days are organized: “to bring football closer to the smallest girls in the city and to be able to build a future with women’s teams in all categories”. In this way, these are the second days that the new directive proposes after they were also organized in the 2021-2022 season. Since then, the club has added a total of 8 women’s teams. Currently, there are 3 fry teams (of which 2 federated and 1 school), 3 children (with two federated and 1 school) and a cadet-female federated team, given that there are not enough players to make two. The president emphasizes that the women’s teams are made up of girls from the age of 12 and that, therefore, “we need to get the new generations interested in football”. In this way, “it will be possible to have a first women’s amateur team in the future”, given that the club has never had a group of these characteristics.

Other initiatives to promote women’s football

This is not the only initiative in which the Peña Recreativa participates to strengthen its commitment to women’s football. In October, the Baix Llobregat Women’s Veteran 7s Football League began, organized by the Baix Llobregat Sports Council. Today, 10 teams participate and one of these is the female veteran of La Peña, made up of women between 18 and 56 years old. In the words of the president of the football club, the veteran women’s team “is a very well-received team within the club and by the fans”. In fact, this coming day the group of veterans from La Peña will contest the league in a match against the veterans from the Cooperativa de Sant Boi.

conclusion

The Peña Recreativa de Sant Feliu is committed to women’s football and is working to promote the participation of younger girls in this sport. With days like this, the club seeks to arouse interest in the younger female generations and expand the number of female teams in all categories. In addition, Peña Recreativa participates in other initiatives to strengthen women’s football in the city. With this commitment, the club hopes to have a first women’s amateur team in the near future.
