Introduction
The year 2024 has begun with a series of armed conflicts that have highlighted the need to work on promoting a culture of peace. In this sense, from the Regional Archive, the Center for Regional Studies of Baix Llobregat and the Territorial Services of Education of Baix Llobregat, the cycle “Armed conflicts and peace processes from research and education”. This cycle aims to provide schools with primary sources, analysis tools and methodologies to work on these very important topics.
Course description
This course is aimed at secondary school teachers in the Baix Llobregat region, especially teachers who work on projects or tutor high school research papers related to armed conflicts and peace processes. However, the sessions may also be of interest to the general public who wish to learn about the historical roots of current armed conflicts and the Archive’s documentation of the struggle for peace in the past.
The course consists of 5 sessions of two hours each. These sessions include two conferences that provide the theoretical framework and two workshops that approach the documentation of the Archive for the development of didactic proposals.

Theoretical framework
– The historical roots of current armed conflicts. The case of Israel and Palestine, by historian Enric Prat.
– Peace processes and negotiation of armed conflicts, by Anna Villellas Ariño, researcher at the UAB’s School of Peace Culture.
Workshops with documentation from the Archive
– Peace movements in Catalonia, 80s and 90s. Possible research works on peace movements and documentary funds, by historian Enric Prat.
– The fund of the Fundació Utopia Joan N. Garcia Nieto and the movements for peace. Research proposals. Example of research on the conscientious objection movement, by Bea Jiménez Martos.
– Application of course content to research in schools, by Marcel·lí Canals and Xavier Cortés.

The course will take place at the Baix Llobregat County Archive, located in Sant Feliu de Llobregat (c/ Clementina Arderiu, 23). The sessions will take place from 18:30 to 20:30 on January 30 and February 6, 13, 20 and 27, 2024.
