The Terres de l’Ebre Lo Pati Art Center and the Mèdol Contemporary Arts Center in Tarragona have launched an initiative to give visibility to the region’s artists.
The Irradiator is a project that was created in 2012 and that has now been reactivated with the collaboration of the association of visual artists ArtSud. This directory of artists aims to make known and promote the artistic talent of the Terres de l’Ebre and Camp de Tarragona.
A constantly growing directory
L’Irradiador currently has a list of 108 plastic and visual artists, and this number continues to increase. The aim is to include other artistic categories such as sound art and hybrid arts. In addition, the Irradiator also facilitates contact with cultural managers to promote collaboration and the visibility of artists in the region.
A growing artistic community
The Irradiator is not a closed project, but is open to the participation of new artists and cultural managers. Aida Boix, director of the Terres de l’Ebre Art Center, emphasizes that the aim is to create an artistic community that allows sharing, work and debate. This initiative also seeks to highlight the artistic landscape of the region and the talent that can be found in Tarragona and the Ebro.
A transgenerational and interdisciplinary archive
L’Irradiador is an archive that welcomes artists of various generations, from young talents to recognized artists with a long career. In addition, the archive also has an interdisciplinary aspect, as it includes artists working in different artistic disciplines. This diversity allows for a dialogue and an exchange of ideas between the artists.
Requirements to be part of the Irradiator
To be part of the Irradiator, artists must meet at least four of the eight established technical criteria. These criteria include exhibitions, institutional or private agreements, awards or endorsements, sales or participation in galleries, activism in cultural associations, reviews in specialized publications and participation in artistic projects.
A platform for local culture
L’Irradiador not only seeks to give visibility to artists, but also aims to work against the disrepute of cultural institutions and claim their importance as a platform for growth and consolidation for artists in the region. In addition, the Irradiator wants to establish links and communication with other cultural managers and with the rest of the world of culture.
In short, the Irradiator is an initiative that seeks to give visibility and promote the artistic talent of the Terres de l’Ebre and Camp de Tarragona. This ever-growing artist directory is a platform for the local arts community and an opportunity to establish connections and collaborations between artists and cultural managers.
