Good outlook for the asparagus campaign in Guadalajara along with the challenge of thefts

by PREMIUM.CAT

Favorable conditions for asparagus production

The forecast for this year’s asparagus campaign in Guadalajara is positive, driven by the abundant rain during the winter that has left the fields loaded with humidity. Such conditions are conducive to the development of asparagus, which has generated optimistic expectations in the agricultural sector.

Challenges from early theft

Although the outlook is encouraging, the first cases of asparagus theft have been recorded early in several plantations, similar to what happened the previous year. Criminals have cut off the tips and devastated areas up to 20 meters long. It is suspected that these stolen products could be destined for street sales in markets.

Statements from the President of APAG

Juan José Laso, president of the Association of Farmers and Ranchers of Guadalajara (APAG), has highlighted the favorable conditions for the growth of asparagus, although he has acknowledged the appearance of some cases of theft. Last year, they had the support of the Civil Guard to control this problem.

Optimistic outlook despite challenges

Despite the incidents of theft, Laso has indicated that this year’s campaign is on the right track, differentiating it from the previous one due to the favorable weather conditions. The rainy winter and stable climate have provided an ideal environment for the growth of asparagus, whose development only requires a constant and moderate temperature.
