A New Proposal to Improve Airport Efficiency
A recent news published by La Vanguardia reveals an innovative proposal put forward by the ERC Government to improve the operation of Aeroport del Prat during the summer months.
In this initiative, a modification is proposed in the operating hours of the airport’s runways, with the aim of allowing a significant increase in the airport’s capacity to accommodate more long-haul flights.
An Opportunity to Improve Air Connectivity
The project envisages the use of the landing and take-off runways independently, during the morning hours, specifically from 10 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon, during the months of July and August.
This measure would not only allow an increase in the number of flights operated per hour, but would also potentially improve the operational efficiency of the airport, benefiting travelers and airlines.
Environmental Considerations and Compensations
Despite the focus on improving air connectivity, the proposal has also raised concerns about its potential environmental and acoustic impact.
Concerns have been expressed about the increase in noise in areas close to the airport, such as Gavà and Castelldefels, during the hours of intensive use of the runways.
The ERC Government, in response to these concerns, has proposed compensatory measures, such as the soundproofing of residential areas, the possibility of buying homes or financial compensation.
