Applications for Andorran Nationality in 2023
During 2023, a total of 906 residents applied for Andorran nationality, representing a decrease of -9.1% compared to the previous year and -34.3% compared to ten years ago (2013).
Results of the Applications
Of the applications submitted, 473 were granted with full rights (52.2%) and 432 were resolved with the recognition of the right to acquire nationality on a provisional basis (47.7%).
Of the total number of applications granted with full rights, 294 acquired it by origin and 179 by acquisition, with the latter having to renounce their previous nationality.
International Migration and Protection Statistics
Following European regulations, acquisitions of resident nationality only consider processes that involve a change of nationality and refer to resident persons. During 2023, 76.0% of nationality acquisitions were obtained by residence option, 20.7% by marriage and 3.4% by other reasons.
Demographic details
46.3% of acquisitions by residence correspond to men and 53.7% to women. Regarding the country of birth, 65.4% correspond to people born in Spain, 8.8% to people born in Portugal and 21.3% to people born in other countries (excluding France and Morocco).
Regarding previous nationality, 69.9% are people who have renounced Spanish nationality, 13.2% have renounced Portuguese nationality and 12.5% have renounced other nationalities (excluding French and Moroccan ).
Regarding the acquisition of nationality through marriage, in 2023 more women (51.4%) than men (48.6%) acquired Andorran nationality.
