Pedro Sánchez decides not to resign
Only a few days ago, Pedro Sánchez had expressed his intention to resign due to the harassment he and his family were suffering. However, in an interview with Cadena Ser this Monday, the Spanish president has announced that he will not leave in the end.
Open to run for new elections
In addition, in this same interview, Sánchez has expressed his willingness to run for new elections, stating: “I am excited for these three years and those that the Spanish people want with their vote.”
Possibility of leading the PSOE again
If this decision is confirmed and this legislature is completed, the president of the Spanish Government could once again be the head of the PSOE list in 2027, as long as early elections are not called, as already happened in July 2023.
Democratic regeneration and transparency
Sánchez has emphasized the need to carry out a democratic regeneration in all areas and has undertaken to lead the debate on this issue. In addition, he has demanded more transparency in the financing of digital media and has questioned the application of the law on institutional advertising in the press to all communities.
Combating misinformation and media harassment
In several interviews, Sánchez has raised the need for a transversal fight against disinformation generated by what he calls “pseudomedia”, in clear reference to the right and the ultra-right. In addition, he has denounced having suffered lawfare and espionage, warning about the presence of “Trojan horses” in a context of misinformation and hybrid attacks.
Application of the institutional advertising law
Sánchez has highlighted the importance of the application of the law on institutional advertising in the press to combat media harassment campaigns, although he has questioned whether this law is enforced uniformly in all administrations.
