To make this selection, a detailed analysis of 18 supermarket chains has been carried out. Various factors such as product quality, consumer preferences and production methods, among other relevant aspects, have been taken into account.
The outstanding supermarket
After thorough research, the OCU has determined that Supermercat Plus, a chain of the Bonpreu de Catalunya Group, offers the best selection of meat on its shelves.
This supermarket has obtained an outstanding score of 84 points out of 100 in the study. At a short distance, in second place, are BonPreu and, in third place, BonÀrea and Hipercor with a score of 79 points.
Other featured supermarkets
In addition to Supermercat Plus, other supermarkets such as BonPreu, BonÀrea, Hipercor and El Corte Inglés also offer a selection of quality meat, according to the OCU.
Tips for buying meat
The organization also offers advice on buying meat. It indicates that beef, pork and chicken are the most consumed varieties in Spain and that their composition may vary depending on the species.
An important factor to consider is the proportion of water, protein and fat in the meat, as this varies according to the animal and the specific piece.
In addition, meat contains vitamins and minerals, but it must be consumed in moderation and alternated with other foods such as fish, legumes and eggs.
As for proteins, the OCU emphasizes that they should not represent more than 12-15% of an adult’s daily needs and that excessive consumption can cause health problems.
