A protest with special meaning

The green tones of the shirts had different shades, but in the Balearic Islands this color takes on a special meaning, especially in the context of a protest. A new green tide has flooded the center of Palma, specifically the Plaça Major, remembering the past fight in defense of Catalan on the Islands.

Crispation due to the policies of PP and Vox

The tension among citizens who defend the language has been increasing in recent months, and this Sunday thousands of people took to the streets to express their discontent with the policies adopted by PP and Vox against Catalan in the Balearic Islands.

Claim of the Catalan language

The slogan ‘Yes to the language’ has been chosen for the Day of the Language, co-organized between Mallorca Youth for the Language and the Balearic Cultural Work (OCB), claiming the commitment of citizens in the defense of the Catalan language.

Testimonies from the protest

A 70-year-old attendee expressed surprise and discontent, stating that she did not expect to have to protest about this issue again at her age. The protester highlighted the importance of mobilizing against the attacks on the Catalan language by PP and Vox.

Attacks on the Catalan language

The policies of PP and Vox have generated conflicts on linguistic matters in public spheres such as administration, health and education, provoking criticism and mobilization by the educational community and society in general.

Culmination of five days of mobilization

This Sunday’s demonstration was the final culmination that coincided with the five-day outcome of Correllengua, a non-competitive relay race that traveled through 59 municipalities on the four islands, bringing together some 20,000 participants.

Promotion and defense of Catalan

Correllengua, a cultural activity that promotes and defends the use of Catalan, has celebrated its 30th anniversary this year, bringing together participants from all the islands in a display of vitality and commitment to the language and culture of Mallorca.
