Installation work

Last May 3, work began on the installation of a new organ in the cathedral of Lleida. According to the diocese, the instrument will be mounted during the next month and a half in the space previously occupied by the previous organs, above the left side door of the altar. The opening is expected to take place in the fall.

An organ with German neo-baroque aesthetics

The new organ, which dates from 1974, will replace the previous one that had been out of service for ten years. This instrument has been acquired in collaboration with the prestigious German organ company Klais Orgelbau. The organ is designed with a German neo-baroque aesthetic and is ideal for playing historical music by composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and other Northern European authors. It has a maximum height of 9 meters and a weight of 13 tons.

Final phases of the project

Once assembly is complete, a second phase of harmonizing and tuning the organ will take place, which will last approximately one and a half months. This will allow the instrument to be ready for inauguration and able to offer optimal performance in the month of October.
