The Vatican presents the symbols for the papal tour
The Vatican has shared the official logos and slogans for the Pope’s upcoming trip, which will take place September 2-13 and include stops in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Singapore.
Indonesia: A unique representation
During the visit to Indonesia from September 3 to 6, the logo shows the Pope with his hand raised in blessing, in front of a golden garuda, a sacred eagle, which has been depicted in a way reminiscent of traditional clothing Indonesian batik. In addition, the logo features a map of Indonesia, an archipelago characterized by a wide variety of ethnic and social groups, languages, cultures and religious beliefs. The motto of the trip is “Faith-Fraternity-Compassion”.
Papua New Guinea: Symbolism and spirituality
During the stay in Papua New Guinea until September 9, the logo highlights a cross in colors intended to evoke the dawns and dusks of Papua New Guinea. On the cross you can see a Bird of Paradise, which symbolizes Papua. The motto is “Pray”, inspired by the request of the disciples to Jesus: “Lord, teach us to pray”.
East Timor: A message of unity
In East Timor, where the Pope will be until the 11th, the logo shows the Pope with his hand raised, blessing. Behind him is the globe from which a map of Timor emerges. The motto of the visit is “Let your faith be your culture”, an exhortation to the people to live their faith according to their culture and traditions.
Singapore: Symbolism of unity and hope
The Pope’s last stop will be in Singapore, from September 11 to 13. The logo represents a stylized cross, inspired by the star that guided the wise men of the East, the Eucharist and the five stars of the Singapore flag. On both sides of the cross, the motto: “Unity-Hope.” This symbolizes the communion and harmony between believers, both within the Church and in the context of society and family relations, as well as the hope that the apostolic journey will bring to Christians in the region, especially those who suffer discrimination and persecution
