Personal Aptitude Test Results

According to data provided by the Department of Research and Universities, almost half of aspiring teachers have not passed the Personal Aptitude Test (PAP) to access careers in Early Childhood or Primary Education. This test is mandatory for students who want to enter a public university and this year a total of 4,754 people took it. Of them, 2,707 students have passed the tests, which represents a 56.94% pass rate. Although the passing percentage has increased compared to last year, which was 54.07%.

Results by type of studies

When analyzing the results by type of studies, it is observed that students who come from high school have obtained the best results, with 60.24% passing out of the 4,200 presented, which is equivalent to 2,530 eligible students. On the other hand, of the 505 students who had completed higher-level training cycles, 30.30% passed the test (153). In addition, 24 students who came from other pathways were considered eligible, which represents close to 49% of those who passed. In terms of gender, 64% of the men presented have been considered suitable, while in the case of women the percentage of approved drops to 55%.

Competencies evaluated in the PAP

The Personal Aptitude Test evaluates two main competencies. The first is communicative competence and critical reasoning, which evaluates the ability to analyze, interpret and understand written documents on topics of general interest, as well as the ability to express arguments in writing with clarity and precision. The ability to reflect on the structure of the written language is also evaluated. The second competence is logicomathematics, which evaluates the ability to use mathematical knowledge and skills to solve exercises and problems, as well as the ability to analyze the results obtained.

Who should perform the PAP

The Personal Aptitude Test must be taken by those students who have completed high school or are studying 2nd year of high school, students who have completed a higher education cycle or who are finishing it this year, students from a foreign educational system. who meet the requirements for access to the university, students who access the university through the tests for those over 25 and 45 years of age, students who access the university through access for those over 40 years of age and students who have not passed the PAP previously. On the other hand, it is not necessary to take the test for students who have already passed it as of 2017, those who meet the PAP conditions defined for university pre-registration in 2014, 2015 and 2016, and university graduates or equivalent.
