Discovering the city of Vic
Any day is good to go back to Vic. I did it recently and with a good excuse, although you don’t need one: to visit the Làctium Fair where some of the best Catalan cheesemakers gather. The walk through the city, formerly called Ausa, is always pleasant and some steep streets are worth climbing for the promise of finding something interesting at the top.
Carrer de la Riera and Plaça Major
One of the most interesting streets in Vic is Carrer de la Riera. This street climbs and climbs until it ends at Plaça Major de Vic. At the foot of the street we find the bar El Bart, in an impressive building from the 17th century. El Bart’s menu offers a varied selection of dishes, although perhaps it would be good if there were more traditional Catalan dishes. Despite this, the shrimp taco is a delight, with high-quality shrimp and a perfectly made tortilla.
Culinary delights at El Bart
El Bart restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes. The bacon and salmon sunomono is a surprising combination of sea and mountain, with julienned vegetables and raw fish in a cold and tasty broth. Grilled vegetables with cheese are a rounding dish, although they could improve with a vinaigrette or a wider selection of vegetables. The steak tartare is well seasoned and accompanied by totopos, although these could mask the flavor of the meat a little.
A selection of wines and desserts
The liquid part of El Bart is remarkable, with a generous selection of artisan wines from the land. They also offer a cocktail menu for cocktail lovers. As for the desserts, although they did not seduce me, it is interesting to see how the cheesecake and tatin are the star dishes of this restaurant. However, the desserts could improve in terms of diversity and balance of sweetness.
A visit to Vic that is worth it
In short, a visit to Vic is always a pleasant experience. The city offers a great variety of places to discover and El Bart is a restaurant worth visiting for delicious dishes and a selection of excellent wines. Don’t hesitate to come back to Vic and enjoy everything this city has to offer.
