Civil Guard agents require documentation in Madrid

Yesterday, agents from the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard appeared at the headquarters of the Superior Sports Council (CSD) and at Madrid City Hall to request documentation as part of an investigation related to Begoña Gómez, the spouse of the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez. This investigation focuses on alleged influence peddling, according to research sources in Europa Press. The agents requested information on files linked to businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés, Gómez’s colleague in the master’s degree he directed and alleged beneficiary of contracts with the public company Red.es, following an order from judge Juan Carlos Peinado.

Complaint and investigation

These proceedings arise as a result of the complaint by the far-right pseudo-syndicate Manos Limpias against Begoña Gómez for alleged crimes of influence peddling for the benefit of Air Europa, a company rescued by the Spanish government, and for the public awards received by the company from Barrabés This complaint is being investigated by the Magistrate’s Court number 41 of Madrid, which had already requested from the UCO the contracts awarded to the employer from Red.es, the CSD and the Madrid City Council, as stated in the summary of the cause.

UCO report

Despite this investigation, the UCO has already sent a report to judge Juan Carlos Peinado in which it rules out evidence of influence peddling by Begoña Gómez. In this report, the agents of the Economic Crime Group 3 indicate that they see no objective links between Gómez and Globalia, as well as that they did not favor the rescue of Air Europa by the State. They also rule out that their intervention has influenced the awards to companies of Juan Carlos Barrabés.

Conclusions of the investigation

After analyzing the public contracts awarded to companies linked to Barrabés, the UCO concludes that, despite obtaining the best score in valuation criteria in some files, it was not the first in economic criteria. This arises as part of an investigation that continues to generate interest and controversy in Madrid.
