Letizia’s hidden past

Joaquín Abad recounts in his book ‘Letizia: an unauthorized biography’ an unknown episode in the queen’s life. According to the journalist, in 1996, Letizia was already a journalist and had returned to Madrid after her failed marriage in Mexico. During that time, she maintained a relationship with the head of the newspaper Siglo XXI, where she worked. However, according to Maica Vasco, a colleague of Letizia, she did not fall in love with anyone, she only sought to advance her journalistic career. She was an ambitious woman who only wanted to climb the ranks in the media. Her colleagues at TVE, who knew her well, claim that if she had wanted it, she would have become a news director. She never imagined that she would become queen and that all of this would come to light.

Letizia’s abortions

According to Isidre Cunill in his book ‘Letizia Ortiz: a Republican in the Court of Juan Carlos I’, Letizia had two abortions in Mexico in 1996. At the time, she was a student and was in a relationship with Jim Russo, but she also looked with Alonso Guerrero. Later, Letizia became pregnant by journalist Jaime del Burgo and she decided to have an abortion again, this time in Madrid, at the Dator clinic. To erase all evidence and prevent this from affecting her reign in the future, Letizia confessed the episode to Felipe VI and asked him for help. David Rocasolano, Letizia’s cousin, was in charge of eliminating any evidence, as described in his book.

The role of David Rocasolano

According to David Rocasolano, Letizia paid 240 euros for the abortion performed on October 27, 2002 in Madrid. The bill for the procedure reached Ramón Akal, owner of the Foca publishing house, who urged Rocasolano to write about the matter. Rocasolano burned all the documents as ordered, so that no trace would remain. Felipe VI would have asked him to disappear all the papers related to Letizia’s abortions.

The kept secret

Letizia’s hidden past reveals an unknown history of the queen. Her abortions and the disposal of her evidence show a facet of her life that has long remained secret. Despite these episodes, Letizia has managed to become queen and play her role successfully. Her story shows that we all have a past and that the decisions we make in our lives can have a lasting impact.
