The investiture of Carles Puigdemont
Following the elections to the Parliament, Junts has made it clear that it is betting on the investiture of Carles Puigdemont. According to this party, this would be achieved with the support of ERC and the abstention of the PSC. Although Junts insists that it does not want a repeat election, Toni Comín, head of the list for the European elections, has admitted that in the event of a repeat election they could consider a joint list with ERC.
The possibility of a unitary list
Toni Comín has recognized that a unitary list with ERC could be an option in the event of a repeat election. Although Junts has not shown interest in this possibility, some voices, such as that of former president Artur Mas, have defended this idea. Comín has admitted that, although it is not his first option, he does not consider it a bad idea in a repeat electoral scenario.
The rejection of a unity government
Toni Comín has ruled out the possibility of a unity government between PSC, Junts and ERC. According to him, this option is not seen in the short term and has pointed out the inability to foresee it. Comín has highlighted the ideological differences between Junts and PSC, stating that Junts is a transversal party that brings together people from the left to the center-right, while the socialist party is conservative in some aspects. Comín considers that outdated schemes are being reproduced that do not correspond to reality.
Criticism of Pedro Sánchez
Toni Comín has criticized Pedro Sánchez for his attitude towards the independence movement. He has stated that Sánchez has now discovered the lawfare with his wife and has criticized that this is quite outrageous. Comín has insisted that the independence movement has been a victim of the judicial war, as the Court of Justice of the European Union has recognized. Furthermore, he has accused Sánchez of being complicit in the persecution that the independence movement has suffered and of not having criticized the decisions of the Supreme Court. Comín considers it outrageous that Sánchez is now talking about lawfare when he has been an accomplice.
Salvador Illa’s position
Toni Comín has spoken about the possible investiture of Salvador Illa with the votes of ERC. He has warned that this would lead to a mandate in which the Parliament of Catalonia would have a majority to make and unmake the nation and self-government. Comín has indicated that Illa, despite his closeness to the PP, would not hesitate to take steps against self-government and the nationality of Catalonia. Comín has questioned whether the independence movement will open the door to a president of the Generalitat who is destined to deconstruct self-government and denationalize Catalonia.
The distribution of seats in the Parliament
Toni Comín has downplayed the importance of the distribution of seats in Parliament, which for the first time has been carried out following the ideological axis instead of grouping together pro-independence deputies. Comín has highlighted that according to the CEO, the ideological positioning of the Junts and PSC voters is very similar. He has stated that Junts is a transversal party that brings together people of different ideologies, while the socialist party is conservative in some aspects. Comín considers that outdated schemes are being used that do not correspond to reality.
