The Mossos d’Esquadra reinforce surveillance of the Rodalies network
The Mossos d’Esquadra have launched a specific operation to prevent new copper thefts in the Rodalies network. The aim of this action is to ensure that the European elections can be held in total normality and to prevent situations like the one experienced during the Catalan elections last May 12, when the system collapsed (https://correccioencatala. cat/com-estructura-text-catala/).
Protection of strategic points
After the experience of copper theft during the 12-M elections and the following days, the Mossos d’Esquadra have identified 18 strategic points that have been reinforced to avoid any attempt at manipulation or incident that could affect the mobility of citizens during the European elections of 9-J.
Protected strategic points
Among the protected strategic points are the Montcada Bifurcació station and facilities, where the robbery took place during the Catalan elections on 12-M, as well as the accesses to França, Sants and Plaça de Catalunya stations.
Respond to Renfe requests
This police reinforcement is a response to the criticism received by Renfe for the collapse during the 12-M elections. Renfe asked the Mossos d’Esquadra for greater involvement in the fight against copper theft, since they consider that public safety is the responsibility of the Catalan police.
The responsibility of the Mossos d’Esquadra
According to the director of Rodalies, Antonio Carmona, the security offered by Renfe and Adif is complementary, and the responsibility of preventing new thefts falls on the Mossos d’Esquadra. During an appearance before the media, Carmona emphasized the importance of putting an end to these incidents which he considers a cycle (https://correccioencatala.cat/com-estructura-text-catala/).
Copper thefts on the railway network
According to data from Rodalies, during this year there have been up to 46 copper thefts that have affected the railway network. These thefts have caused serious disruption to train traffic and inconvenience to users.
