An eight-year project

For eight years, a French man, Richard Plaud, has dedicated his time to the construction of a replica of the Eiffel Tower with 700,000 matches, with the aim of breaking the Guinness Record.

The denial of the Guinness Record

Despite the efforts, the jury has denied Plaud the Guinness World Record after discovering a breach of the rules, which require the use of matches sold in supermarkets.

The ‘trap’ detected

Plaud tried to streamline the construction process by asking a manufacturer to send him only the wooden part of the matches, rather than hand-cutting the red phosphorous at the end of the stick, as required by the rules.

Reactions and future aspirations

Despite admitting the facts, Plaud considers the denial of the prize disproportionate and seeks other forms of recognition for his work, such as inclusion in the Paris Olympic Games.

A project with eight years of dedication

For eight years, a French man, Richard Plaud, has dedicated his time to building a replica of the Eiffel Tower with 700,000 matches. This construction, seven meters high, has been a large-scale project that has required constant and meticulous dedication.

The illusion of winning the Guinness Record

The main objective of this construction was to get into the Guinness Book of Records. However, after eight years of work, the jury has denied him this recognition due to irregularities that do not conform to the established regulations.

Irregularities in the use of matches

The rules stipulate the use of matches sold in supermarkets, but Plaud opted for a different route. Despite starting by following the rules, he ended up asking a manufacturer to send him only the wooden part of the matches, an action which the judges considered a serious irregularity.

Reactions to the jury’s decision

Richard Plaud has admitted the facts, although he has expressed his disappointment at the jury’s decision. However, he is looking for other forms of recognition for his work, such as the possibility of being included in the Olympic Games in Paris this summer.
