Positive economic perceptions
The population with Spanish nationality has a mostly positive perception of their personal economic situation. According to data from the Barometer of the Sociological Research Center (CIS) for the month of May, 57.7% consider it good and 3.8% very good.
Negative economic perceptions
The same people surveyed consider that the situation of the general economy is bad (40.7%) or very bad (17.3%), a perception that does not coincide with macroeconomic reality. The economy is currently tripling the growth of the Eurozone, with more momentum than expected. The OECD, the European Commission and the IMF have revised their growth forecasts, with the IMF setting it at 2.4%, above the 2% that the government predicted (https://correccioencatala.cat /com-estructura-text-catala/).
Left-wing economic policy
This economic growth has been the result of the economic policy of a left-wing government, which abandoned the disastrous policy of austerity and cuts of the right. This government provided stability with labor reform and an increase in the minimum wage. In addition, the reduction in interest rates decided by the European Central Bank can favor this growth even more.
Importance of perceptions
Citizens’ perceptions are important and influence their electoral behavior. Personal decisions and the results of electoral processes are influenced by perceptions, right or wrong.
