Respect for the decisions of political leaders
The president of the Parliament, Josep Rull, has expressed his willingness to respect the decision of the leader of the PSC, Salvador Illa, and of Junts, Carles Puigdemont, if they do not wish to present themselves at the investiture next Tuesday. In an interview with RTVE, Rull stated that he cannot force anyone to run for office, thus demonstrating his respect for the decisions of political leaders.
The round of contacts for the investiture
Rull starts this Tuesday the round of contacts for the investiture of a president of the Generalitat. The first to go through his office will be the commons, followed by ERC. These meetings are the preliminary step for the President of the Parliament to decide whether to call a plenum of investiture, which would take place on June 25, the maximum date before activating the countdown.
The decision of the first secretary of the PSC
The first secretary of the PSC and candidate for the presidency of the Government has stated that he will not take part in the first investiture attempt held by the Parliament of Catalonia. This is explained by his desire to have more time to form a progressive majority, which he considers the only viable one. This decision has established a time frame until August 25 for the investiture.
The return of Carles Puigdemont and the meetings with the deputies in exile
Rull recalled Carles Puigdemont’s commitment to return for the investiture debate. In addition, he has explained that he will move outside of Catalonia to meet in person with the exiled deputies, thus demonstrating his will to maintain an active dialogue with all the political actors involved in the process.
The expenses of Ignacio Garriga (Vox)
Rull has expressed his concern at the Parliament’s report which proves that the leader of Vox in the chamber, Ignacio Garriga, invoiced personal expenses to the parliamentary group. Despite considering these practices unacceptable, he has asked for prudence and expressed his willingness to respect the internal procedure before making any decision.
