Summary of the original article
The Atlantic front that has affected Catalonia since Friday has not even tickled the drought. Very windy – with a serious accident in PortAventura -, snowfall on the north face of the Pyrenees and very discreet rain in the rest of the country. It is only necessary to highlight remarkable records in Selva and other parts of Girona’s counties, basically in hydrographic basins without reservoirs.
Precipitation at the headwaters of Ter and Llobregat
At the headwaters of the Ter and the Llobregat the rainfall has left between 1 and 5 litres. In the first part of the episode, the precipitation was concentrated in the central third of the country, leaving aside the area that supplies the country with water. In this sense, it is worth noting records between 10 and 20 liters in regions such as Barcelonès, Vallès Oriental or Garraf. They also exceeded 10 liters in the towns of Ponent and the Terres de l’Ebre.
Snowfall in the mountains of Ripollès and Cerdanya
In the mountains of Ripollès and Cerdanya, the snow has been anecdotal, with a powder above 1,800 meters which, in many places, had already disappeared after a few hours.
Prominent precipitation in the regions of Girona
The rain was only generous in the interior of the counties of Girona. The 41 liters in Santa Coloma de Farners, in the Tordera basin, stand out. Rainfall that also affected parts of Gironès, the south of Garrotxa and even Alt Maresme. The best news was the 31 liters near the Susqueda reservoir.
Reservoirs continue to drop
Despite the rains, reservoirs continue to drop. This Monday, the swamps of Catalonia’s internal basins are at 15.32%, a new historic low. The case of Sau stands out, which continues to be emptied in favor of Susqueda and is already below 3%, a figure never seen before.
Evolution of reserves in the Ter-Llobregat system
In fact, the Ter-Llobregat system has not stopped losing reserves since the drought emergency was declared. Just two weeks ago it fell below the threshold of 100 hm3 and this Monday they are at 96.6 hm3.
The situation of the Darnius-Boadella reservoir
One of the basins in emergency for months is the Muga. There, the Darnius-Boadella reservoir is already only at 11.5% capacity and only a rainy spring can prevent a very complicated summer in one of the areas with the most tourist pressure in the country.
weather forecast
After the front this weekend, for this Monday the wind will still blow and there will be remnants of instability in parts of the Pyrenees. However, from Tuesday the anticyclone will once again be the master of the situation. Daytime temperatures will climb again, light frosts will remain inland and no precipitation is expected for at least a dozen days. Another bad news for the drought.
