Last November 7, the book ‘Rheumatology: a comprehensive view’ was presented at the Hospital de Santa Maria de Lleida, a work that includes the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases. The book has been coordinated by the Rovira i Virgili University professor, Pilar Montesó, and the head of Rheumatology at the Hospital de Santa Maria de Lleida, Francesc Miró. Anna LLàdser, a nurse at the Verge de la Cinta Hospital, who collaborated in the creation of the work, also participated in the presentation.
A reference book for professionals and patients
The book, which has 293 pages, is aimed at health professionals as well as patients and people interested in rheumatology. The book offers a comprehensive view of rheumatic diseases, from their epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinic, diagnosis, treatment and prevention, to their psychological, social and occupational implications. The book also includes chapters dedicated to rheumatology nursing, rehabilitation, therapeutic education and research in rheumatology.
A recognition of the work of the rheumatologists of Lleida
The coordinators of the book wanted to highlight the role of rheumatologists in Lleida, who have contributed to the improvement of care for patients with rheumatic diseases. Dr. Francesc Miró recalled that the Rheumatology service at the Hospital de Santa Maria de Lleida was the first in Catalonia to have a specific ultrasound machine for the study of joints. Professor Pilar Montesó has thanked the involvement of all the authors of the book, who have made it possible for it to be a work of reference in the field of rheumatology.
