An unexpected change at the Women’s Institute

The director of the Institut de les Dones, Isabel García, will be dismissed at the meeting of the Council of Ministers this Tuesday. This decision comes after revelations that both she and his wife, Elisabeth García, had benefited from a minimum of 64 public contracts awarded by municipalities under the control of the PSOE. Sources close to the Government indicate that her dismissal is imminent, despite the fact that García has defended her actions, ensuring that all of her management has been carried out within the framework of legality.

Questioned contracts and accusations

The newspaper El País has reported on the situation, highlighting that the couple shared several companies that were hired by different administrations to manage the Lila Points. It is estimated that they would have pocketed around 250,000 euros through these hires.

Throughout the process, the Spanish Socialist Workers Party maintained a low profile. Ana Redondo, Minister of Equality and member of the PSOE, chose to allow García to express herself and offer her explanations. Redondo stated that it was necessary to give her space to clarify the situation instead of making a hasty decision, while the political group Sumar demanded her immediate dismissal.

The contract allocation strategy

It is important to detail how the companies linked to García and his partner accessed these contracts. In the case of the San Fernando de Henares City Council, the total value of the contracts obtained exceeded 23,000 euros. It has been noted that the strategy used to secure these contracts involved submitting multiple offers through various companies associated with the couple, thus guaranteeing their victory in the selection process. Furthermore, the companies Elig Consultoría de Igualdad y Diversidad, together with IMBER Consultoría de Igualdad, not only lack registered employees, but their operation is largely based on volunteers, which adds a layer of controversy to their operations.

Defense of Isabel García

Isabel García has spoken out regarding her situation, ensuring that she has a “clear conscience” and is certain that she has acted correctly. In her defense, she has stressed that her partner has the complete right to practice his profession and live from her work. García stated that “none of my partner’s companies received a single contract from the Institut de les Dones, not even in the past” and that she has never influenced any company in its efforts.

Cristina Hernandez takes over the leadership

In the midst of all this controversy, elDiario.es has announced that the socialist Cristina Hernández will become the new director of the Institut de les Dones. Hernández, committed to the PSOE since her youth, is an expert in equality and the fight against gender violence. It should be noted that she was a scholarship holder from the Institut and she also worked on the telephone line for victims of gender violence 016, in addition to having collaborated closely with prominent figures of the PSOE such as Adriana Lastra and Félix Bolaños.
