The new direction of Se Acabó La Fiesta
Last Wednesday, the group Se Acabó La Fiesta, a political movement led by the controversial Alvise Pérez, made public its intention to join the far-right group known as the Group of European Conservatives and Reformists, led by Brothers of Italy. Although Alvise’s team claimed that the deal was practically closed, sources associated with Giorgia Meloni’s formation denied that the situation was officially resolved.
Details about the integration request
The ECR group has specified that Se Acabó La Fiesta has submitted a formal request to join its ranks, but a final decision has not yet been made in this regard. According to El Confidencial, Meloni’s representatives have indicated that it will be their group that will carefully evaluate the proposal made by Alvise, and the final resolution will be collective. This determination is expected to be made at a meeting scheduled for September.
Importance of the coalition at the European level
For Alvise’s party, leaving the group of Not Registered in the European Parliament represents a significant change. Joining ECR would not only provide an increase in financial resources, but would also give them more speaking time during plenary sessions and parliamentary committees.
Other alternatives considered
Se Acabó La Fiesta has the opportunity to fill the void left by Vox, which, previously part of CRE, has aligned itself with the new group Patriots for Europe, promoted by Marine Le Pen and Viktor Orbán. Although SALF tried to be part of the latter, it is argued that entry was blocked by Vox.
In addition, Alvise had contemplated the possibility of joining Europe of Sovereign Nations, another far-right group in the European Parliament, which includes various radical formations such as Alternative for Germany. However, this option was rejected by his group, finally deciding to attend the constitution of the European Parliament independently.
Future plans of Alvise Pérez
Alvise Pérez has already announced his intention to resign from his position as a member of the European Parliament to participate in the next general elections. In his statements to the media upon entering the first plenary session of the new legislature, he expressed that his main objective is to achieve control of La Moncloa or, failing that, for his party to have a decisive influence in the government. Alvise concluded by stating that, as soon as the elections are called, he will leave his position in the European Parliament to lead his new party in the elections.
