A Friday marked by uncertainty

This Friday, members of the Republican ERC party will find themselves in a tense situation as they prepare to hold a crucial consultation on the possible investiture of Salvador Illa. This decision could define the political future of the formation, which is divided in an atmosphere of increasing tension.

Disagreeing voices: the First of October Collective stands up

A group of ERC militants, known as the First of October Collective, has made a clear and forceful appeal to the militancy: they must reject the investiture proposal. This collective represents the most critical voices within the party and has expressed its displeasure through an official statement.

Arguments against the proposal

This statement refers to several reasons for rejecting the agreement with Illa. Highlighting the lack of fulfillment of commitments by the Spanish State, the collective recalls that, once invested, Illa will have his presidency guaranteed for four years without clear mechanisms to dismiss him in case of need.

The financing perspective and fiscal sovereignty

Critical activists also point out that the promises of a new funding system depend on legislative changes that will be difficult to achieve, considering past experience with the Constitutional Court and its limitations in the Statute.

A call to emotional and rational action

The First of October Collective urges the militants to reflect before voting, using both reason (voting ‘with the head’) and emotion (voting ‘with the heart’). They argue that supporting a PSOE candidate, who they consider to represent a centralist and pro-Spanish vision, would be a strategic mistake for Catalonia.

The idea of autonomy and sports teams

A dose of irony is introduced when they mention that in order to compete as national teams, Catalonia needs to be an independent State, recalling the limitations imposed by the International Olympic Committee.

Finally: a powerful message

The collective’s final message is not to surrender to those who want to see Catalonia limited and immobilized. ‘We cannot allow the wolf to become a friend’, they say, making it clear that their commitment to Catalonia’s sovereignty and self-determination is non-negotiable.
