Israel will take over the security and borders of the Palestinian area, including Rafah
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last night, for the first time since the conflict in Gaza began almost five months ago, outlined his plan for the “day after” of the war. According to the document, which he submitted to the security cabinet for ratification and released today by the prime minister’s office, Israel will assume full responsibility for security in the Palestinian enclave, which will be left without weapons, and control the borders – including the Rafah crossing – increasing its margin of safety in its surroundings.
“The ‘Southern Barrier’ will operate, whenever feasible, in collaboration with Egypt and with the support of the United States, and will be based on measures to prevent illegal trafficking from Egypt, both underground and aerial, including the passage of Rafah”, specifies the document published by the prime minister’s office and collected by the Efe agency.
The plan also envisages the abolition of UNRWA and the rejection of a Palestinian state
The plan, as reported by Efe, also contemplates the suppression of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa), on which a large part of the population of Gaza depends and, in the long term, maintains its refusal to a Palestinian state or to the “international impositions on a definitive pact”.
In the long term, Netanyahu reiterates his opposition to a Palestinian state or to “international pressures for a final agreement.”
