A Congress for a new beginning
Jordi Turull, general secretary of Junts, has announced an extraordinary congress for the next weekend in October, with the aim of revitalizing the pro-independence movement. In a conference at the party’s headquarters, he expressed that the meeting seeks to restructure and promote independence from Junts per Catalunya.
Reaction to the new Government
Turull has stressed that the convening of the congress responds to the current political situation, marked by the new government of Salvador Illa. According to him, the current scenario has shown a fracture within the pro-independence bloc, which needs a new direction.
A renewed roadmap
The main objective of the congress will be to establish a new road map towards independence, as well as to define a country model that contrasts with the new unionist tripartite formed by the PSC, ERC and Commons. Turull has indicated that Junts was not responsible for facilitating a Spanish government in the Generalitat.
The fundamental role of Puigdemont
As for Carles Puigdemont, Turull has highlighted his importance in the party’s renewal process. Despite his promises of withdrawal, the secretary has stated that it is impossible to imagine a new pro-independence impulse without his active contribution.
Unanimous support in the direction
During the party’s executive meeting, held recently, Turull assured that all members agreed to correct the decisions taken, including the reappearance of Puigdemont in Barcelona and his subsequent departure to Belgium.
A symbolic weekend
The 26th, 27th and 28th of October will be key for Junts, coinciding with the anniversary of the unilateral declaration of independence in 2017. Turull has described this event as ’emblematic’ and has expressed the desire to involve both the affiliates as those who, without belonging to Junts, feel committed to the cause.
A call to action
The general secretary has invited all those who do not want to surrender to the new political reality to join the congress, stressing that Junts is open to the contributions of all those who fight for independence.
