An innovative initiative for Catalan on networks
Featured figures such as Juliana Canet, Ada Parellada and Pol Casellas, among others, have been central to the promotion of Catalan on digital platforms. Now, for the first time, the Foundation.cat and La Fera have joined forces to launch List.cat, a ranking that classifies creators who use Catalan as their main language in their publications. This new tool aims to provide visibility and measure the actual impact of these profiles on the most popular social networks such as Tiktok, Instagram and YouTube.
Creators classification: leaders and emerging
Albert Lloreta, one of the leaders of the initiative, emphasizes that for the first time the state of Catalan can be evaluated on social networks with specific data instead of simple intuitions. The classification distinguishes between two types of creators: the leaders, who have already gained great influence, and the emerging ones, who have recently begun to capture the attention of the public. In addition, the portal offers the possibility of sailing in categories such as lifestyle, gastronomy, sports or video games.
Key metrics: scope, quality and debate
List.cat uses an algorithm designed specifically for this purpose, which analyzes data extracted from the main social platforms. The creators are manually selected, taking into account three fundamental aspects: the scope, which measures the number of views; the quality, which considers interactions as ‘like’ and sharing; and the debate, which will be evaluated from the comments generated. Each creator gets a score that determines their position in the ranking.
A constantly evolving ranking
Contrary to the idea that rankings only benefit the most popular creators, Lloreta claims that List.cat is a dynamic tool that reflects the changing reality of the digital landscape. The creators who have the most impact a month will not necessarily be the same with the most followers. This diversity is essential to enriching the creative scene and giving opportunities to new voices.
Requirements for inclusion in the ranking
To be considered in the ranking, creators must meet a number of requirements: they must publish mostly in Catalan, maintain a regular and recent activity, offer original content – whether it be creative, informative or reflective – and not be institutional or purely commercial profiles.
Looking to the future
With this initiative, it seeks not only to recognize current creators, but also to foster a vibrant ecosystem of Catalan content that can grow and evolve. Creating spaces where Catalan can shine on social media is an important step in its preservation and promotion in an increasingly digital world.
