A unique musical experience
The recent concert of the Ibercámera season, which took place in the Auditorium last May 21, was an unforgettable musical experience. On this occasion, we had the opportunity to enjoy the National Orchestra of France, under the direction of Cristian Măcelaru, accompanied by the renowned pianist Alexandre Kantorow. The concert program included Chopin’s second concerto, as well as other pieces of music of great beauty.
The magic of Chopin’s music
Alexandre Kantorow, a talented French pianist, captivated the audience with his performance of the Piano Concerto no. 2 in F minor by Chopin. With impressive technique and great sensitivity, Kantorow tackled this complex work with ease, demonstrating his dexterity and precision in every note. His generous and nuanced sound conquered the audience’s ears, although at times a more intense expressive depth was lacking. Despite this, the Larghetto movement was lyrical and beautiful, although perhaps lacking a dose of incision to achieve full romantic magic.
A dazzling virtuosity
The Allegro vivace, the final movement of the concerto, was a true display of virtuosity on Kantorow’s part. With precise execution and breakneck speed, he mastered the ascending and descending scales with great dexterity. The orchestra, despite having a prominent role, did not achieve total complicity with the soloist, although it offered a correct interpretation.
The magic of Romeo and Juliet
The second part of the concert was a magical experience with the interpretation of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet ballet suites. Under Măcelaru’s baton, the orchestra created a colorful tapestry with each instrument, transporting us into the universe of the most famous love story of all time. The wind, especially the wood, stood out for its expressiveness and delicacy. The string section, with an agile and bright sound, brought great intensity to the more lyrical moments. The music spoke for itself, conveying all the emotion and passion of Verona’s history.
An apotheosis ending
In front of the audience’s ovation, Măcelaru led the orchestra in a masterful interpretation of the Bacchanal of Samson et Dalila. With formidable skill, he created an oriental atmosphere full of mystery and sensuality. The sound of the orchestra filled the room, transporting us to a world of passions and emotions.
