by PREMIUM.CAT

A tradition that endures

As every year, the stage of the Palau Falguera Auditorium in Sant Feliu de Llobregat is dressed in poetry for the end of Poetry Week. On this occasion, the large painting of the writer and poet from Sant Feliuen Martí Dot presides over the stage, welcoming the attendees. This year, Poetry Week has reached its 49th edition, consolidating itself as one of the most important cultural events in the city.

Poetry Awards Martí Dot

During the closing of Poetry Week, the Martí Dot Poetry Prizes are awarded. This year, the prize for the best poetry collection has been awarded to Paula S. Expósito for her work ‘La represa del plaer’. This collection of poems deals with themes such as guilty pleasure, gender violence and resilience. With her poetry, Expósito captivated the jury and was recognized as one of the best poetesses in the Baix Llobregat.

A week full of activities

From March 14 to March 24, Sant Feliu experienced a week full of activities related to poetry. Concerts, recitals, talks, book presentations and exhibitions have filled the city with the magic of words. This Poetry Week has been an opportunity for the San Feliu community to enjoy and celebrate the richness of poetry in all its aspects.

The Martí Dot Poetry Prize

The Martí Dot Poetry Prize was created in 1974 with the aim of promoting poetry in the Catalan language among young people and supporting new talents. This prize is open to people up to 36 years of age who present a collection of original and unpublished poems. This year, a total of 31 poetry books were presented, by 16 poetesses and 15 male poets. The winner of the prize receives a financial endowment of 1,500 euros and the publication of the winning work in the poetry collection of Viena Edicions.

A recognition of poetry

Mayor Lourdes Borrell, during the closing of Poetry Week, highlighted the importance of Martí Dot and other poets who have left an important legacy in the city of Sant Feliu. He also thanked all the participants and collaborators who have made the continuation of this contest possible, making it one of the most important poetry awards in Catalonia. This recognition is the result of the joint work of many people who love poetry and who make it possible for Sant Feliu to be a benchmark in this area.

An ending with music and poetry

To put the finishing touch on the Week of Poetry, the closing event featured the performance of the Dixieland Preachers, a local group that offered a unique show: ‘Poet in New Orleans’. This proposal combines poetry and music to transport the audience to the essence of New Orleans jazz. With this performance, a week full of emotions and poetic inspiration closed with a golden twist.
