A Celebration of Poetry and Recognition of New Talents

As every year, the Palau Falguera Auditorium stage hosted the closing of the Poetry Week in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, with a large painting by the local writer and poet Martí Dot presiding over the event. This year, the 49th edition of the contest has highlighted the theme of guilty pleasure, gender violence and resilience, with the prize for the best poem to Paula S. Expósito from Baixllobregatina for her work ‘La represa del plaer’. The event concluded with the show ‘Poet in New Orleans’ by the local Dixieland Preachers.

A Week Full of Poetic Activities

For ten days, Sant Feliu has been immersed in more than thirty acts that have filled the city with poetry. Concerts, recitals, talks, book presentations and exhibitions have been part of this celebration, culminating in the awarding of the Martí Dot Poetry awards. Mayor Lourdes Borrell highlighted the importance of the event and paid tribute to important figures in Sant Feliuen history such as Martí Dot and Joana Raspall, as well as to all those who have contributed to the continuity of this event in the city.

Recognition of Young Literary Talents

The Martí Dot Poetry Prize, created in 1974, continues to be a platform for young Catalan poets under the age of 36 to showcase their works. In this latest edition, a total of 31 poetry collections have been presented, with the participation of 16 poetesses and 15 male poets. The award, endowed with 1,500 euros and the publication of the winning work in the poetry collection of Viena Edicions, has contributed to fostering literary creation among the young people of the community.

Promotion of Literary Creation and Local Culture

Poetry Week in Sant Feliu de Llobregat has proven to be a unique opportunity to encourage literary creation and celebrate the city’s cultural wealth. Through this event, new talents are recognized and the flame of poetry is kept alive in Sant Feliu, consolidating the contest as one of the most important in Catalonia.
