A shy and reserved prince

Juan Carlos and Sofía presented numerous royal candidates to be Felipe’s partners, but he was not interested. During his adolescence, Felipe was a very shy man. The kings came to think that he would never marry and that they would have to change the Constitution to allow Infanta Elena to inherit the throne. However, everything changed when Felipe completed a master’s degree in Washington with his cousin Pablo from Greece. Away from the media spotlight and living as a young man, the then prince had a relationship with Gigi Howard.

Past relationships

After Gigi Howard, Felipe had other relationships, such as with Isabel Sartorius and Eva Sannum. However, Juan Carlos was personally responsible for ending these relationships because the women did not belong to royalty, but were commoners.

The meeting with Letizia

Letizia was not a chance meeting at Pedro Erquicia’s house. Everything was prepared. Felipe saw the journalist as the perfect woman to sign a pact beneficial to both of them. Felipe needed a companion to be able to inherit the throne from his parents and prevent a single or homosexual king from being frowned upon in the monarchy. According to journalist Laura Rodríguez, based on Joaquín Abad’s book, Felipe VI would like to hide his true sexual orientation with Letizia.

A pact with a price

Felipe and Letizia were not in love with each other. They signed a pact in which they agreed to simulate a happy marriage. In exchange, Letizia would receive benefits and privileges as queen, becoming the most powerful woman in Spain. In addition, she would receive succulent amounts of money for her silence. The deal was quickly accepted by Letizia, who saw in it the opportunity that she had been waiting for for so long.

The threatened secret

The Royal House did everything possible so that this pact between Felipe and Letizia never came to light. However, Jaime del Burgo, the third person in disagreement, has decided to break the pact and reveal the truth. The consequences of this revelation remain to be seen.
