The former Duke of Palma and his impact on the Royal House
Iñaki Urdangarin represents a significant challenge for the Royal House. Despite taking responsibility for errors related to Juan Carlos I, both the emeritus king and the current monarch, Felipe VI, were aware of the activities of his and her husband, Diego Torres. Despite this, Urdangarin was the only member of the family who ended up in prison, while his wife, Infanta Cristina, was released with three million euros. Now, after her release, she returns with the intention of revenge and enjoying a luxurious life.
Urdangarin’s requests
The former Duke of Palma has managed to obtain most of his requests. According to Juan Luis Galiacho, he received two million euros as compensation for a book that he was offered to write, he gave it up and also obtained a lifetime pension of 25,000 euros per month, along with additional clauses that have not been revealed. One of these clauses is related to his four children, freeing him from his financial obligations towards them, since they are of legal age, leaving Infanta Cristina in charge of all expenses.
Financing family expenses
So far, Infanta Cristina has assumed all of her children’s expenses, while Urdangarin has not contributed financially. Surprisingly, it has been Juan Carlos I who has financed all the studies of his grandchildren, with the exception of Leonor and Sofía. In addition, he has covered the costs of the apartments and all of Juan, Pablo and Miguel’s expenses, even giving them each a car when they got their driver’s licenses, and he already has one prepared for Irene.
The future of Irene Urdangarin
Irene Urdangarin has accepted her mother’s proposal and in September she will resume her studies at a private university in the United Kingdom. It is unknown what career she will choose, but she will follow in the footsteps of her brothers Juan and Miguel. Infanta Cristina will assume all costs related to the university, apartment, meals and travel. Despite this, it will be Juan Carlos who will cover the expenses of this new British adventure for his granddaughter.
